NATIONAL SPORTS DAY 29 AUGUST

National Sports Day (India) 🏑🇮🇳


National Sports Day is celebrated every year on 29th August in India. The day marks the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, one of the greatest hockey players in history, often called the "Hockey Wizard" or "Magician of Hockey" for his exceptional skills and achievements.


Significance:

Major Dhyan Chand led India to win three Olympic gold medals (1928, 1932, 1936) in field hockey.

He is remembered as a sporting legend who brought immense pride to the nation.

To honor his contributions, India celebrates National Sports Day on his birthday.

The President of India confers prestigious sports awards on this day, such as:

NATIONAL SPACE DAY- ROLE PLAY ON STAGE

 National Space Day is a day dedicated to celebrating the wonders of space, space exploration, and the contributions of scientists, engineers, and astronauts who make it possible. It is observed every year on the first Friday of May.


✨ Origin

Established in 1997 by Lockheed Martin Corporation as a one-time event to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).


Later, due to its popularity, it became an annual celebration.


🚀 Purpose

To inspire young people to pursue careers in space science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

To recognize the incredible achievements in space exploration, including moon landings, satellite technology, and Mars missions

NATIONAL LIBRARIAN DAY CELEBRATION


 Dr. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan (1892 – 1972) is known as the Father of Library Science in India. Born on August 12, 1892, in Shiyali, Tamil Nadu, he was originally a mathematics teacher but later devoted his life to libraries and information science.


Major Contributions:

Five Laws of Library Science (1931) – His most famous contribution, which shaped modern library services:


1. Books are for use.

2. Every reader his/her book.

3. Every book its reader.

4. Save the time of the reader.

5. The library is a growing organism.

August 12, his birthday, is celebrated as National Librarian Day in India.


He transformed libraries from book storage rooms into dynamic centers of learning.


He inspired generations of librarians to see their work as a service to society.



📖 Ranganathan believed that “library is not just about books—it is about people and their right to knowledge.”
